More than 60 years after David G. enlisted in the Givati Brigade but due to PTSD from the Holocaust, he was not able completed his service brigade and it was always a sore point that he was not able to serve.

When Colonel Yaron Finkelman heard about this, he came to the nursing home for Holocaust survivors and presented David G. With a purple beret. Finkelman put the beret on David’s head and told him he has now officially been honorably discharged from the IDF.

David G. Sat at attention and shouted “Mefaked!” “Sir, Yes, Sir!” The good Colonel saluted his new (young at heart) recruit back. Colonel Finkelman said that he could not help but shed a tear that he helped fulfill the dream of this Holocaust survivor.

“David G. survived many concentration camps and paid his dues, he deserves this just as any soldier does, everyone who was in the room did not have a dry eye.” Finkelman said.

Thank you David G. for your struggle and service and thank you Colonel Yaron Finkelman, you are our hero of the day!
