The Hill Reports:

First lady Melania Trump escorted Sara Netanyahu  on a tour of  the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Upon arrival at the museum, the duo met the museum directors who escorted  first ladies around the facility and gave them a verbal tour of the 19th Smithsonian institution.

Trump had been expected to visit the latest Smithsonian museum on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 16, but did not end up visiting. In a report on Jan. 14, the museum said the White House and Secret Service had not reached out to them to plan the visit at that point. The trip was scheduled days after civil rights leader-turned-lawmaker, Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., announced he would not attend Trump’s inauguration.

The two reportedly spent several minutes on the last stop of the tour, which was in the room with a waterfall that features quotes on the wall from figures such as Nelson Mandela and poet Frances Harper.

Trump thanked Netanyahu for “coming to D.C.” before the pair departed.

Obama had suggested that Donald Trump visit the museum to “tune in” to the black community after claiming on the campaign trail that the African-American community was in worse shape than ever before.
