Last week White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer made a major gaffe in saying that “even Hitler didn’t sink to using chemical weapons” when talking about the U.S. bombing Syrian airfields after Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad used chemical weapons on his own people.

His comments were followed up by a failed explanation when he said, “I think when you come to sarin gas, [Hitler] was not using the gas on his own people the same way that Assad is doing. . . . He brought them into, um, the Holocaust center  —  I understand that. But I’m saying in the way Assad used them where he went into towns, dropped them down into the middle of towns, it was brought  —  the use of it  —  and I appreciate the clarification.”

Weekly comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live (SNL) was certainly not going to let Spicer’s statements go under the radar. Their in-house Spicer impersonator, actress Melissa McCarthy, paid costumed homage to the time Spicer actually did dress up as an Easter Bunny. Sometimes, the truth is stranger than fiction.

McCarthy took the opportunity to mock Spicer’s controversial gaffe about Hitler and concentration camps. She also brought back a popular element of her previous Spicer impressions: the hand puppets. This time, McCarthy’s Spicer tried to explain the story of Passover.

In the sketch she said “Everybody shut up… so I can apologize. Yes you got your wish this week.” She continued saying, “In defending the president’s decision”…”I said at least Hitler never used chemical weapons and everybody freaked like Boo Hoo what about the Holocaust centers? And yeah I know they’re not really called Holocaust centers. Duh. I know that. I’m aware. I clearly meant to say concentration clubs.”

McCarthy’s Spicer went on to say, “I am particularly sorry this happened the same week as Passover or a.k.a. ‘Jewish Easter’. So in the spirit of cultural unity I thought I could shed some light to all the goys out on there on this most sacred holiday, Passover.”

McCarthy then went on to ridiculously explain the story of Passover in the most hilariously inaccurate way possible, and with the use of hand puppets.

Later in the episode, they brought back an old favorite at the Weekend Update desk, Jacob the Bar-Mitzvah boy, played by Vanessa Bayer. In the sketch Jacob tells the story of Passover while reading from a prepared speech, unable to stray from the written text and make conversation with the anchor.
