A man arrested by the FBI in connection with bomb threats made against Jewish community centers across the country is an anti-Trump leftist who recently converted to Islam.

Federal authorities arrested Juan M. Thompson, a 31-year-old former reporter from St. Louis, Friday in connection with at least eight bomb threats called into several Jewish institutions over the last month, including the Anti-Defamation (ADL) League, officials said.

Thompson worked as a reporter for The Intercept – a left-center online news site started in 2014 by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar – from November 2014 to January 2016, when he was fired for fabricating sources and quotes in his stories, according to a statement Friday by The Intercept.

Thompson’s Twitter account is still active and is filled with anti-Trump comments, as well as pro-Communist sentiments. He tweeted that just returned from Senegal and had “reverted to Islam”. A correction on a deleted tweet where he said he “reversed to Islam”

Thompson also tweeted a pictured with Hillary Clinton where he can be seen to the left of Senator Clinton. He tweeted about being obsessed with Hillary Clinton, when he was “young and dumb” but also reiterated n his Twitter that he voted for Bernie Sanders.

Juan Thompson tweets a framed picture of himself with Hillary Clinton.

Thompson allegedly “emailed ADL’s midtown Manhattan office Feb. 21, indicating that his former girlfriend was ‘behind the bomb threats against Jews.  She lives in NYC and is making more bomb threats tomorrow.’  The following day the ADL received a phone call claiming that explosive material had been placed in the building,” the ADL stated.

New York City Police Commissioner James O’Neill said that “The defendant caused havoc, expending hundreds of hours of police and law enforcement resources to respond and investigate these threats. We will continue to pursue those who pedal fear, making false claims about serious crimes.”

Thompson has been accused of making threats over the last month against the Anti-Defamation League offices in New York, a Jewish history museum in New York, as well as Jewish Community Centers (JCCs) and Jewish schools in New York, Michigan, Dallas and San Diego that they know of. The investigation is ongoing.
