Sarah Cohen is one of the last Jews of Kochi, India.
The 95-year-old is the owner of Sarah’s Hand Embroidery, a business that she runs with her nephew, Thaha Ibrahim, who is not Jewish. She is the last living remnant of the vibrant Jewish community that used to live in Jew Town in Kochi.
In the morning he helps her recite tehillim and makes sure she has everything she needs to carry on her Jewish tradition, including obtaining kosher food.
When asked whether she prefers Israel or Kochi, she answered “Israel”. Why? “Because there are no Jews in Kochi.
