A new prize will recognize individual’s contributions to the shaping of German-Israeli relations.

The German-Israeli Future Forum and Germany’s Foreign Ministry are calling for applications from young professionals ages 18-45 from both Germany and Israel for the “Shimon Peres Prize” to be given in October in Berlin.

Two awards will be given – one to an Israeli and another to a German. It comes with a cash prize of 10,000 euro, or more than $11,000.

Deadline for applications is July 31. Details can be found on the foundation’s website.

Peres, who served as an Israeli Prime Minister and later as President of the country, died in September 2016.

According to an announcement from the seven-year-old foundation, the prize – announced by newly installed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Jerusalem in May – is meant to honor “professionals and executives who have made an outstanding contribution to the shaping of German-Israeli relations,” particularly through scientific cooperation ventures, artistic collaborations and German-Israeli exchange projects.

Winners will be selected by a jury whose members represent academia, politics, civil society, culture and the economy.
