Our beloved Chana Liora A"H
was tragically taken from us at the age of three after an eighteen
month battle with cancer. Many of you "encountered"
our precious "Chani Banani" along her journey, either
personally, through her website www.chanaliora.com,
or from the Worldwide Shabbat Chesed we sponsored in her memory
to mark her shloshim. Throughout her struggle, Chani miraculously
managed to bring Simcha to those of us surrounding her. Chani
taught us all to appreciate every moment of life. Chani inspired
us to strive to reach great heights in Tefila, Shmirat Ha'lashon,
Achdut and Simcha. Chani exuded true Simcha throughout her ordeal.
During our travail, two remarkable people were sent to us, Chaim
and Miri Ehrental, the founders of Zichron Menachem, the Israeli
Association for the Support of Children with Cancer and their
Families. They reached out to us with guiding hands and loving
support. Chaim and Miri established Zichron Menachem in memory
of their fourteen year old son Menachem A"H who also lost
his battle with cancer. The Ehrenthal's have built a "lishma"
organization that today, in its award-winning state-of-the-art
headquarters, offers children afflicted with cancer hope and happiness
through day care, celebrations, trips and family activities.
Each day of Chani's medical treatments, seven "special"
young women who were serving their year of Sherut Leumi as volunteers
for Zichron Menachem came to Hadassah hospital to bring smiles
to the faces of the young cancer patients. One of the seven "angels"
was Naava Appelbaum A"H.
From their first meeting, Naava and Chani bonded, Naava's high
spirits and abundant energy bringing cheer to the frightened little
girl. Even during a major snowstorm that brought all of Yerushalayim
to a standstill, Naava and her partners braved the elements to
get to Hadassah with pails filled with fresh snow which they proceeded
to form into snowballs for the children to throw. Our Chani got
to feel snow for the first time in her life because of Naava's
supreme devotion.
Chani's Naava was abruptly taken away from Chani and all of us
when she and her eminent father Dr. David Appelbaum were targeted
in a terrorist bombing. The night before she was to walk down
the aisle as a Kallah, Naava perished. Her unworn wedding gown
now serves as a Chuppah for young couples and a mantle in Kever
Rachel.
OnlySimchas.com
has graciously taken upon itself the eternalization of our Chani
and Naava through a fundraising campaign for Zichron Menachem,
the organization that brought them together. Your generous contributions
will put a smile on the young faces so much in need of Simcha.
In return, may Hashem bless you with Only Simchas and the good
health to enjoy them.
